PUBLIC MEDIA AWARD LIST OF CATEGORIES
- Animation: complete programs created using 2D or 3D animation techniques like stop action, clay-mation, wireframe, etc. Opening and closing title sequences from other types of programs are not eligible for this category.
- Arts & Entertainment – Series: Programs designed to entertain and amuse including visual, media or performance arts, comedy and entertainment talk show. This category is to submit a compilation up to three 5-minute excerpts from three episodes in a series.
- Community Affairs & Events: General coverage of community events such awards ceremonies and other special community events, Parades/Festivals, Activism/Rallies.
- Cultural: Programs that showcase the diverse ethnic culture, customs and differences in cultural groups both here and abroad. subtitles are required for programs in a language other than English.
- Educational / YOUTH: informational or entertainment programs targeted for audiences of children 12 years old and younger. These programs features school sponsored programs and/or events, other than sports or performing arts.
- Experimental:risk taking or unique work that challenges traditional boundaries using innovative production techniques
- Health & Fitness Programs that focus on health & fitness tips, information, exercise and overall well-being.
- Informational Talk Show- Series (Sub-categories, Entertainment, Cultural, Politics) : Programs in which interviews are conducted or designated host inform and/or engage the viewers about a specific topic. Program is can be shot in studio or on location. This category is to submit a compilation up to three 5-minute excerpts from three episodes in a series.
- LGBT informational and entertainment programs targeted to audiences of the LGBT community
- Magazine Shows: programs comprised of several pre-produced segments or stories on a different topics that are introduced by a host or narrative.
- Music: features music and video images.
- News: Programs that provide coverage of local issues, people, places and events through reports, interviews, and video clips.
- Politics/Government Activities: Programs that provide coverage of local issues, people, places and events through reports, interviews, and video clips.
- Public Service Announcements (PSA): short videos, less than 1 minute in length, promoting a community event or organization or presenting a particular social message.
- Radio /Podcast Programming: News, talk, music or entertainment radio programming broadcast from an access center.
- SHOW PROMO This category is for programs that have the best introduction – which demonstrates technical & creative skill.
- Spiritual / Inspirational: deals with religion, or spirituality, or acknowledges a connection with a higher power.
- Sports: “game of the week” or coverage of a sports activity or sports competition.
- Travel Programs that showcase diverse communities, cultures and people around the world.
- WTF??? Programs that do not fit into any category and but utilizes Public Media as its own self-expression
